U19 fixtures
Week 2
Egerton Canute U18 26 - Holmes Chapel U18 23
Congleton 55 - Egerton Canute 11
Well done to the undersized Canute squad who struggled with the zone set up by Congleton, whose 6-6 centre dominated proceedings and dunked on Ivan Robles a couple of time for good measure. Congleton's dominance of the boards fed their fast break and poor transition defence left them some easy lay-ups. A good game however considering the Congleton players drove themselves to the game and our young team are several years away from even getting a set of L plates.
Against the younger Holmes Chapel squad an entertaining game saw Canute just edge it as Holmes Chapel adged into foul trouble in the last few minutes. A close game with the win evening up the defeat of two weeks ago.
Week 1
Egerton Canute U18 35 - Holmes Chapel U18 42
Macclesfield 25 - Egerton Canute 8
A competitive start to the 10 week season 1 with Egerton Canute fielding a young and inexperienced squad with several players just old enough to make the age cut. The players visibly tired in the second game against Macclesfield who had age and size on their side. However EC were not overawed and could be proud of their contribution to a good match.
The team visibly improved on the day and showed much to build on for the future. Well done to all who took part.

On April 22nd 2009 James Hamilton the 'Ambassador' of the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets attended the first Junior Session run by the club under the new brand name of the Egerton Jets. The session was led by Josh Grooms a key member of the Jets Hoops 4 Health and Junior Jets coaching staff. This link up with the Jets marks the culmination of 18 months hard work since the re-establishment of the Canute junior program following a hiatus in the late 90s. With 20 players in attendance the future for basketball in Knutsford looks bright.
With the recent addition of the Egerton Jets to the fold the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets now have ten Junior clubs across Cheshire, the Wirral, Flintshire and now Knutsford with further expansion planned.

By way of introduction . . . . Basketball is played by more people in the world than any other sport, except soccer, and is the number one Olympic team sport. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has 213 federations in membership and is now responsible for a sport which has over 400 million players worldwide, including, at the elite end, the world’s highest paid sportsmen.
It is hugely popular in Europe, the Americas, Australasia and Asia, but compared to other countries it is under-represented in the UK. This is now changing with increasing media exposure (including TV) of the British game, a successful national team and a number of British players performing very successfully in the NBA.
Attendance at British basketball games has increased by 30% over the last 30 years and it is now the second most played sport in schools (Harris Research).
The professional basketball league in the UK is The British Basketball League (BBL). There are 12 teams in the league with a combined attendance of 250,000 through the season. The clubs work with a total of 70,000 school age students in over 1,000 schools countryside.
The Jets Basketball Club was started over 20 years ago and has a proud history. In recent years thry have been the most successful basketball team in the country, winning 7 national trophies between 2002 and 2005. They attract the highest calibre players including British Internationals, Olympians and NBA professionals.
In 2007 the club name was changed from Chester Jets to Cheshire Jets to further establish and strengthen the profile across The North West.
Fans travels from far afield on match nights and community network programs are spreading out across the region.
Alongside the hugely successful competitive team the Jets run a major community programme in the region. Using the club players as professional sporting role models, they deliver basketball coaching and healthy lifestyle messages to over 5,000 Cheshire young people per year.
The principal sponsor, BiG Storage, are self-storage operators with 6 sites across Cheshire and Lancashire.
